Ok that makes sense why I thought it was 25 degree north some 40+ years ago :). Thank you
no ... drift is a bit less than 0.5 arc-second of latitude per year. So 50 years ago, the tropic of cancer was roughly 25 arc-seconds further north.

23.5 degrees is typically taught. 25 ... no.

Day 36 at Lake Louise and spent 1/2 of the day on a bean bag chair on a patio with volleyball and an awesome DJ above spinning great tunes all day.

Yesterday was an absolutely great day 28 (and final day of my season, it turns out)… until it wasn’t.

Literally moments from the village area at Sunshine Village at the end of the day, I hit a small depression on a traverse, fell forward, and broke my fibula. One sled ride, one wheelchair gondola adventure, one incredible ski instructor who drove me in my car to the hospital, and one unexpected night in Banff with my surprisingly capable 14yo (who I have discovered is exactly who I want with me in a crisis) until my husband could bus up and drive us and my car the rest of the way home. Now awaiting a decision if I need surgery but it’s looking likely.

Ski patrol were outstanding and really can’t say enough good things about them. Anyone who can get a ski boot off a broken ankle with only a little extra discomfort is a magician.

it was a stunning sunny day but the only picture I took wound up being this one:

Day 36 down, at Steamboat. Headed to SLC next for what looks to be some warm, spring skiing after a couple days of that dirty W word.

Mel, sorry to hear about your ankle, but glad for you it's only your fibula (which bears little weight and generally has much less restrictions as you recover). Also glad you raised your youngun right to be a reliable companion. Hope you heal up fast and are ready for the first flakes of next season.

Ski patrol folks are indeed awesome and a big part of what makes skiing in-bounds so safe and fun.

When @AKMINK broke her tib/fib in 2010 patrol basically told her she could have them do it or wait until she got to the hospital but they could get it off much better than the hospital could.

It was impressive - they use 2 people to do it and they’re fast. The patroller who did it was showing the ropes to a newer guy, so she did the injured one & asked me if it was ok if the newer guy practiced on the good foot. The more people that have that skill the better!

Weather has been so-so for the past 4/5 times, snowfalls, blizzards, rain…but any bad day skiing beats any good day rat-racing, right?
I have always found, BTW, the pass per day price count a bit misleading, since I do not permanently live in the mountains, as day count goes up, yes pass per day price goes down but…transfer and living expenses go up, sometimes dramatically, as well.
But we’re not in it for the money innit?
We are in it for the Soul.

36 at Solitude. Firm to soft as the sun beat down. Still a great day.

Just got in day 40 at Magic. Noone was there and coverage and conditions were great. Solid hardpack but completely edgeable and the sun was out. My Kasle MX83s were rockstars. I'd never had them out on a full on hardpack day yet and they are now a long term member of my quiver. I'll bring these out in a heartbeat now that I know what they can do.

Gorgeous day today. We skied in the morning and went in and worked all afternoon. Michele and I work remote so it was a nice combo day.

About 20 days in so far in 23/24. The season has been extended until April 28th, although I'm sure that much of April will be weekends only, and I ski only mid-week.
First day season was at Crystal Mountain, WA Dec 13th. Overall, I have 13 visits at Crystal and a 5-6 maybe more at the Summit at Snoqualmie (Alpental, Summit Central/Silverfir)
The weather this year in the PNW has been less than ideal. Not as much snow as we would like (about 60% of normal) and the temps have been higher than average. Mid-Mountain at Crystal is 5100 ft, and the top of the Rainier Gondola is 6872 ft, and the top of Silver Queen-accessed by Chair 6 is 7002 ft. Snoqualmie Pass is 3,000 ft, top of Central is 3865 ft and Alpental mid-mountain is 4400 ft, top 5610, so significantly lower elevation, hence warmer daytime highs and overnight lows. This often meant the difference between rain and snow.
Still, I had a few excellent days only a few days were rained out this season. This week I got in some excellent spring skiing (probably around 30K vert in 3 1/2 hours,) with more snow predicted next week at Crystal (but, rain at Snoqualmie.) Remember, "Ski Fast Down!"
