Pfft, it's still a little too early. First tracks are way better served with leftover turkey sandwiches!

^^^^ That looks much better than Roundtop. I was not there, either.

Most places up from here have lifts spinning. It's raining right now though. Next weekend maybe. Weekend after that is almost definite with $5.00 lift tickets Saturday and Sunday.

I don’t ski in the rain. Unless I am skiing and it rains.

Opening Day at the Shoe

I don't ski in the rain... unless it's a Gathering and I want to ski... At the last mid-A Timberline Gathering, I spent a half day skiing in light rain. And last year's NE Gathering had a morning of fairly heavy rain, as these guys can attest:

Oh I have done plenty of skiing in the rain in Virginia. I just choose not to do so now, which is convenient because it rarely rains in the winter in Colorado.
In fact my first ski experience back in Virginia was in the rain, and I was wearing brand new bluejeans (long before pre washing was in vogue); hence the screen name blue streak.

I'll back out of a day trip if it looks like the prospect of hard rain is high. If I'm already committed, lodging booked or already there I will ski in the rain. How long depends on accommodations. I'll go two sessions with a place to stay and a change of ski clothes. I'll ski at least an hour if it's a day trip. Either way, not too proud or cool to put a trash bag over my jacket and pants down to the thighs. Even the best ski outerwear will eventually soak through in two or more hours of hard rain.

Not sure if it's climate change, location change, or both but I probably ski more hours in the rain per season here than I did in the rain my entire life back in the midwest, northeast, and western trips.

Oh Hi Oh
No skiing in the rain for this guy. I took a pass on Snowshoe Friday morning but by 2 PM the sun came out. We skied Saturday. Sat rain changed to snow Sun AM. I had to leave but my friend on Safety Patrol said Sunday was excellent. He sent me a pic of bluebird conditions today.

This weekend looks warm and wet. However, I should be good to go Dec 7th or 8th.. This might make it pretty good.

Still a ways out and could change, but there are some nice PoPs mid next week.

Oh Hi Oh
Wanna head to Blowshoe this weekend but looks rainy.

I wonder how much more (if any) they can get opened by the weekend. If you are close, it may be worth a day trip but I would not make a long drive to ski Gandy and Spruce. Or, you can dodge the noobs on the green trails off of P Monkey Lift.

I'll be rooting for those models for the weekend after Turkey Day

Little 365 vert Appalachian is having $5 day tickets next Saturday and Sunday. I will probably drive up for a few hours one of those two days.
