Well, either Mabel or Douglas is apparently clinging to a Douglas-fir, if that means anything. So at least Mable has a thing for Douglas.
Douglas squirrel is the species also known as a Chickaree or Pine Squirrel but this one’s name is Mabel.
Great shot (just catching up on this thread).
When I was there a couple years ago there was a nest below Angel's Landing - on the north side, under the saddle-ish. On out way back from the Narrows the day before, at the stop in between the rangers had a scope set up on the nest -- the juvenile was enormous. The mother came circling with lunch. Very cool. Couldn't spot the nest from above with the naked eye.
In more local news, police boats had to escort the Canadian geese away from the Christmas boat parade. About 30? per police boat.
Vermin.
Fast, persistent and bloody minded vermin with zero toilet hygiene. And the proof is: they consistently outflew/swam the cop boats.

This cute little guy was beheading chickens in our barn. He now lives two towns over.
I was thinking they could probably slide down a ski slope really well. But they would probably need heated socks.
This lady startled me when I went outside last night. She was right at the deck when I came out.
