Arrived in Moab Tuesday afternoon. Pulled in for a warm-up ride on the Klondike Outer-loop.

14 miles that kept you on your toes. Lots of quick up & downs, bumps & troughs

Today brought lunch & plenty of water. Cool morning with highs in the low 70’s, light wind, clear skies. Stayed on the trails for 6 hours & a solid 4 of that was actual riding

And check out those knee pads!

2006, so pretty early days for protective gear. Those came out of some dirt bike pants, and I drilled holes in them for ventilation.

I didn't even knick them on anything the whole trip. The one guy in the group that refused to wear any padding......well, you can guess how that turned out!

Thursday in Moab I met up with my old Mammoth friends Dan & Robin along with their friend Di at Navajo Rocks. We began with the lower loop..

This section has been giving me fits because the upper potion is covered in sand and the flow wants to drop you down the middle, so you need some speed in sketchy stuff. Rolling looker’s left was easy when lined up properly.

i know that spot. You can see that the earth is round from there.

I know that spot too! We just returned from our annual White Rim lap. Mrs. the elder, err, mrs. pliny and I always ride the rim for our anniversary. We also got in a few days around Moab, riding and hiking. Winter will come soon enough. Time to ride.

Do you day trip the loop or spend nights? If the latter, who drives?

We've done it as a one day, two days or three or four, with a large group or by ourselves. This year it was just us, three nights.
Airport, Murphy and Hardscrabble. When it's just us we take turns driving or get the truck down the road and ride back so we can ride together. The WhiteRim is about being there for us, the riding is secondary. Although, even with thirty something laps, I don't ever tire of going there.

I totally get the 'for us' part. The riding is good and fun but the place itself is incredible.

I've only done it with large groups, sag supported. One time we did a 50 mile ride for the fun of it. We did it once as one of the first groups after they rebuilt the washed out section that comes up to Mineral Bottom (see last photo). Once I had to do an emergency trip to Moab to get ATF for the other vehicle which had overheated the tranny and blown all the ATF out the filler tube. That was on Halloween.

L to R, top to bottom:
Shafer Trail - not for the timid
The same arch as in one of your photso, I believe
A night at camp
Paella - this guy would make it every trip. He now has a restaurant where it is the specialty of the house
My Taco loaded and ready to go
One of the freshly paved sections

I haven't been back in years. Thanks for putting up with my reminiscing.
