From the Thunder Mtn. trailhead, up Casto Canyon, across the Cassidy trail and down Losee Canyon makes for an excellent 20 mile loop. Great area with a lot of good riding.

I think the Cassidy side is better riding but not as iconic scenery.

Thanks guys for explanation :) It's not that I would really love to ride between millions of people on let's say Arches or Byce trails, but was just wondering if it's allowed or not, as if nothing else, there would be some awesome photos on few places :)
there is no riding the national parks in Utah, but there is tons of riding NEAR national parks in Utah. Most hiking trails in utah would be unridable with out danny macskill levels of trials skill.
Sure with only few 3 or 4 weeks trips in SW of USA, and always on foot and never with mtb, I'm anything but experienced with trails there, but most of trails where we were hiking looked more like highways, or least what we would call "fireroads" here, and certainly nothing like our mountain/hiking paths (which I normally ride with bike :D) look like. And as I still prefer some "high speed" trails over rooty/rocky sections where you ride 10km/h, those actually looked pretty cool for me. So not really sure about need for Danny MacAskill skills to ride that what I saw :)

yeah I guess I have only really hiked though the devil's garden at arches which for sure starts out as a fire road but there is no way to bike even if it was allowed. it is not allowed. in arches you can ride on the jeep road in the backside of the park but its not exactly fun....

I would just take your pedal+shoes and riding gears. Rent a bike in Moab. Go do Captian Ahab, and the whole enchillada at the very least. If you have more time add Slick Rock,Klondike trails and Bar M trail system.

Captian Ahab is just such a cool downhill trail.

yesterday's afternoon shred. From the local Loam factory. This place is a ton different from just about everywhere else in Vermont in the fact that its never raked and never leaf blown, which means the ground stays nice and soft and IMO loam is way more predictable than hardpan scraped clean dirt that get hammered into dust. I have no idea why more places dont let loam happen.

Give me some feedback, I am trying something new than how I used to make POV skiing videos back in the day.

That's a good POV and those trails look fun!
I had no idea they raked and blew the leaves off the trails there--wow! I guess one thing about leaves is when they're wet...we do have a brief wet leaves period here, and it definitely slows people down briefly.

Had plans to do some lift served biking Saturday morning at Solitude. - Snowing up there pretty good right now so that's not looking too likely

I just looked at the Snowbasin webcams, looks like a significant amount of snow up top.

Meanwhile, yesterday may have been the best ride ever! The combination of one of my favorite trails, perfect brown pow, freshly tuned bike that I really have dialed in & not seeing another soul made for the perfect ride. A little cool & wet but who cares...

A little snow at 8700’

Made this video a couple of years ago. I'm sure I posted it here back then. I was just looking through some old pics and vids and came across it. This is just to show a typical park in ct. I was out riding alone and must have brought my camera along. Might have to go there tomorrow...gonna bea beautiful last weekend of summer 'round here.

Yea, you just ride the BLM land around Moab, not in the parks.

Back in Gunnison. Killer loop with the boy in Hartman Rocks.

First rode over to the Ridge from the base parking.

From a couple of double blacks, Technical Becks and Freefall.

But Tech Becks was definitely a sketchier - Firefall had a lot of steep drops, but fairly smooth.

A sweet technical 10 miles. So sweet.

yesterday day ride.

Sniper and The Bench Cut are the two featured trails. Sniper(1:09) is a steep, pumpy downhill with a couple small 2-3 foot drop off. Its get very steep with a maximum gradient of 25 percent. Bench cut(3:16)is a steep loose gully run that has pretty good flow. I also have to laugh at mister fixxed length seat post who got stuck on the first turn as I see most people trying to ride non dropper bikes here. @EricG and @Erik Timmerman have both rode this trail before. As always the camera hides steepness. See if you can spot the partridge I scared up as well, it kind of scared me. I also hate dappled light as my concussed brain wont let my eyes adapt to the change any bit quickly.

Rode the 403 yesterday. Some of this pitch is what I don’t like about back diamond up and downs, because it just becomes super loose in the steeper rocky sections that usually lead up to really tight switchbacks and it’s about impossible to let it roll through.

Absolutely gorgeous views of the West Elks. I think stuff like this is more of a tour. If you drive up to the parking lot (as opposed to a crushing grinder from town) it’s 500 ft of ascent - nice enough to get the blood pumping at 11K - and then 1,850 descent. The trail runs behind Gothic Mt. and connects Washington Gulch to Gothic Rd (whatever that gulch is called).

Here in the middle with Crested Butte at the bottom. For reference, CB to the trailhead is about 10 miles.

This is open range. I talked sweetly to her, but she was still scared. CB peaking in the background.

Good flow in spots - these would all be wildflower fields a month ago.

Most technical spot on the trail. In the ‘survive, learn, ride’ mantra of riding a new trail, was happy to walk this.

And down the final switchbacks. CB’s wildflower season was apparently off the charts this year. Nights are below freezing right now, so it’s all gone.

Long descent back to town (looking back up here) where you need a ride to go get your truck.

Good ROM, no swelling, no pain. I see the doctor tomorrow for my 2 week post-op visit. I'm really excited to loose the TED hose. :(

@nay I know I am across the country but IMO those dissectors are nt really good on moon dust...i use to ride that stuff all the time...Heck the only place I honestly like the dissector is a dry on hardpack trail, its rolls nicely and has good side grip on hardpan.

The Specialized Hilly Billy or Maxxis Short as a front tire and something like HR2 rear would be great on that moon dust going up or Down. Roll slow as shit on packed dirt but you cannt win it all. That rock chute looks gnar before attempting I would want to go to double down over my normal exo tire, our rocks here are tend to be less jagged, and more slabby but we have to deal with sweaty rocks on more humid days something I have never seen in the inter mountain. If I ever get a van and start van lifing your area is my first stop is colorado.

@nay, that tech spot reminds me of my whitewater kayaking days, in a way.

We always used to joke that Class V kayaking is easy.........unless you're an inch or two off the correct line!

Good call walking, IMO, when you're a bit "out there" and on your own.

First post on the MB ‘19 thread, Not for lack of riding, it’s been a great season and think we rode more than ever and have enjoyed all the posts.
Today - Last day for lift serviced terrain here at BS with the start of the ski season just 2 months away.

Snowy caps, sunny skies and a rider appreciation party to wrap up the season.

Big thank you to the BS mountain trail committee(s) both at the resort and in town, it’s an amazing network of trails throughout the village, in the meadows and up at the resort.

Today’s last lift ride

Could hardly get the camera out for this fellow along the route today- he was clearly occupied with his hunt.

That’s the Specialized Eliminator. Great loose over hard tire, less excellent when it gets churn deep.

I have the “Blck Dmnd” casing on the rear, which is basically a lower half DH tire and upper half Grid (similar to Maxxis Exo). I’m really happy with it. Straight Grid casing up front and I’d worry about it taking a big hit. Especially given I ride a 130mm bike.

I’m really cautious when out alone if it’s sketchy, that’s a super ugly wreck in that spot.
