Just don't tell me an American processed slice is better than melty Brie on a burger!

Not diner food, but your post jogged my memory. Wife and I on vacation in a rental last week. We had brought some of our home grown garden tomatoes and some American thick cut locally produced bacon, and some nice locally baked 9 grain bread, good for sandwiches, not the heavy horse feed bread. Went to make BLTs for lunch. Forgot the mayo. Had some artisanal herb encrusted Brie on hand though. Toasted bread, sliced brie on warm toast, spread melty brie, tomatoes, and bacon...yummmmmmy.

Was a short order cook at Besecker’s Diner in Stroudsburg, PA in HS the summers of 1988-89…Worked the morning shift (6am-2pm) with the owner’s son Mickey. I was known the “pancake guy” in the am….and the “burger guy” at lunch.

The memories of how “hot” it was in that small diner kitchen in those summer months….brutal.

*My favorite shift meal (as a HS kid)….was a cheeseburger and fries/cheese/gravy….
I've been there! Been a LONG time!

Diners always have the best lingo for calling out orders:

Burn one, take it through the garden and pin a rose on it

Dough well done with cow to cover

One bun pup: 86 the hemorrage, extra breath, side of frog sticks

How thick does bacon have to get before it becomes pork belly?

Bacon is cured pork belly.
Pork belly is uncured. Usually purchased in a slab.

Raw pork belly slabs used to be difficult to find in supermarkets. Always can get it in Chinese groceries. Now it is widely available in Costco.
Pork belly in Chinese groceries are sold with the skin on. The skin keeps protects the meat during long braise. Also reduces shrinkage.
Costco sells pork belly in slabs and sliced. Skinless.

I WILL make bacon at some point! We've had some pork belly appetizers at a few places and they're like little bites of powder day!

I grew up in Queens and haven't found any diners I like as much as those.

Two things I've only ever eaten in a diner, though not sure they're the best.

1. Chinese roast pork sandwich on garlic bread with duck sauce.
2. Monte Cristo.

2. Monte Cristo.
Yup, a staple at any diner.

One of my favorites that I cannot find out here is good Honey dipped fried chicken with the nice crispy batter.

Ketchup and onions would be sacrilegious.

If vegan food is so good why are they always trying to make it taste like non vegan food? The same goes for meat free foods, why do they want to make them like meat? Why not let a vegetarian burger taste like plants?
