I looked to see what happened with https://bringatrailer.com/listing/400mph-bonneville-streamliner/

I edited a comment that included some of "Bids went from $51,000 to $175,000 in the last 30 minutes. A new record and it is not even on the salt."

Buyer commented "The vehicle will be going back to Bonneville"

3 hrs later the Seller commented "I spoke with (the buyer) Vance -[ who appears in the dictionary under “The Real Deal” ] – and then I spoke with Steve, Courtney and Ken – and here’s the news: We’re getting the band back together! We are going Land Speed Racing! Rock ‘n Roll !!!"

Correction to my previous post. Flat-four Subaru engine was 2.5L rated at 180 horsepower. Seems like a 5-speed would have been nice addition.
Can't understand why they stuck to swing axles if they put in a water cooled motor...

That is a cool one. A buddy of mine had one of these back around 2000. It certainly didn't have tons of power, but it was sure fun to drive.

My first thought seeing you post this was “well, this one will go for a lot of money”. Then I clicked on the listing and holy f**k! That is just crazy!

I have a to share a funny story:

I have a friend with whom I like to trade jabs. Always in good fun and a great relationship. We always made fun of each others cars because he was a Porsche guy and I was BMW/Audi guy.

Well, he owned a 911 Turbo at the time and was over at my house. I walked into the garage and came back out. I held up the container in my hand and told him that I had some leftover 2-cycle oil if he needed it for his 911. He turned a great shade of red and started to, with a look of complete frustration, explain the difference between air-cooled and 2-cycle until he saw the smile on my face. It was too funny.

To most of us that represents actual dollars to the people who bid this high it's just a number that probably won't effect their lives until it has another zero or two.

LOL, we see $315,000.00, they might see $31,500.00...or even the decimal moved even further.

Agreed. My stepmother is a landscape designer. She sent a bill for $6700 for design and planting to a very good long term client and received a check for $67,000. If she had deposited the client most likely would never have noticed the discrepancy because it amounted to pocket change.

Really BIG money changes perspective. When Paul Allen bought the Seattle Seahawks an economist compared it to a middle class family buying a new sofa. That comparison always stuck. Since he owned the Portland Trailblazers too, he had 2 sofas.
