I’ve had the material liner on my custom footbeds from Surefoot replaced a couple times. It keeps coming loose and bunches up, so I pulled it off. Is it necessary to have material on the footbed? I noticed it is more difficult to slide my foot in without it.

Is there anything I can replace it with?

I use several different topskins. For folks with fused ankles or limited flexion in the ankle, a fabric topsheet works best allowing the foot to slide in easily. For performance, a somewhat "stickier" foam really grips well and eliminates movement. If you have trouble with entry, try a fabric/foam laminate topskin. Maybe a new footbed...the footbed blanks sold by SVST are a solid layer of white Kydex topped with the fabric/foam layer. If you are replacing the topsheet and it has been moving, make sure to use the 3M 90 spray adhesive, really sticky shit.
