Lots of color on that trail. Looks like fun for this time of year.Took a short run through woods today. The ground is totally covered with pine needles and leaves. It's magical in there.

The ground underfoot is spongy and silent. View attachment 112620
Stands of hemlocks make parts of this trail dark.

Not too many covered rocks under this dense leaf cover.

On the way out the ferns are fading.

Yeah, it's pretty New England-y, although even more consistently mountainous. The overlook with the rocks is at about 3,000 feet, and the river is 800-900 feet below.@dbostedo, you captured a rainbow in that waterfall! Nice. WV looks like New England.

Screech Owl. Apparently they don’t screech. It’s very small for an owl so it’s camouflage helps as it looks like tree bark. Huge eyes. Owls can rotate the head 270 degrees with their 14 neck vertebra.
That sent me off looking up Saw Whet Owls...I love VINS, and the screech owl. They used to have a saw whet owl, and somehow it was even cuter than the screech owl.
