Pros: Reusable, intense heat, mouldable to body
Sticks to skin, remains in place with minimal support
Cons: Sets up very rigid - do NOT wrap around a limb
Needs boiling water to reset
Coin trigger can be hard to 'click' and may need to be clicked twice
Dropping or hitting a reset warming pack can easily trigger it.
These things are strong. The heat given off by the larger sized packs is easily comparable to electric heating pads. That in itself, combined with the lack of fire hazard, may make them worthwhile.
Resetting the packs really requires boiling water; smaller packs might be resettable under 150F tap water but the entire pack has to be heated through at once. Lower temps will not do it.
I am not sure of the travel value: motel rooms don't generally come with pasta pots, and it is very easy to shock the packs into giving-off-heat mode so I wouldn't count on carrying ready-to-heat packs in luggage.
