Battle of the titans, premium vs premium, mano a mano, Ali-Frazier, the list goes on.
The Kästle BMX 105 and the Stöckli Stormrider 107 are the class of the class in the One Oh Somethings, skis between 100 and 110 mm. If you wonder what this segment is all about, read this: The One Oh Something Skis. But these two are not your typical OOSs, they are much more than that. Stepping up to the premiums buys you skis that bely dimensions, skis that in softer snow, feel wider; on firmer snow, edge and hold better; and at slower speeds, still perform. - Why choose the Kästle? The beauty of the new BMX 105 is that it likes gravity but doesn’t require it; so many of the One Oh Somethings need momentum to get going. If you want the power and unlimited top end, get the HP; for mortals who don’t want to give the ski 100% of the attention 100% of the time, the regular, nonmetal version is more than acceptable.
- Why choose the Stöckli? The SR107 is another one of those skis that villages sing praises to. Last year Stöckli added carbon to the extremities, and that subtle difference in construction took the SR107 to stratospheric levels of refinement. There is smooth, and there is Stöckli smooth. Will the Stormrider 107 run? Absolutely, but it does not need to. (It will entice you to, though: resistance is futile.)
- Other skis in the class: Renoun Endurance 104, Armada Invictus 108Ti, Blizzard Cochise, Head Monster 108.
