This season was about “Benergy”! My great friend & ski partner Ben passed away unexpectedly last year at the age of 36. His family erected a stone monument at the top of one of our favorite ski runs...

Monument is above my left shoulder

At the end of many days even though I was seriously spent, Ben would drag me up to the top of this bowl to ring the final bell.
I made the hike more than a few times this year in his memory

Ben & I explored a lot of special places over the years

One of myself.

One of two good friends on our last ski adventure before they moved to AK. Amid the historic avi debris that closed out our planned adventure.

And one I took that came out surprisingly well.

And one for the sheer scenery.

This downsized for web image at Heavenly at 11:20am on February 22 after a huge dump with much riming. The blue sky with the cold clear air at 9400 feet was intensely saturated. This is right at the ridge line off the 49er trail where winds and riming tend to be strongest and trees are often flagged. I gave up an early half hour of better powder skiing to move to this position and shot several more rimed whitebark pines in that area. I don't usually carry my smartphone anymore while skiing given their lack of zooming. Yep cannot phone me on slopes anymore haha. Instead use a less bulky tiny Canon ELPH190 20mp compact digital with a 12x zoom as I did here that is on a short cord clipped with a lanyard that I can safely, quickly pull out of my Salomon breast pocket.

I lucked out -- perfect timing to be the first on the Kensho SuperChair at Breck. I just skied up to it and it opened. It never really opens at a definite time -- depends when Ski Patrol is ready. Not that it is a great photo - - it's just nobody was up there.

Dusk in Breck

Did a road trip to Snowy Range in a blizzard -- quite memorable. Had the entire motel to myself!

Road trip to Buck Hill, Minnesota -- cool little area. They had some lift ticket deal, something like 20 bucks.

And of course 4th of July at A-Basin -- more about the unique atmosphere and not the hordes.
