Just having a conversation with @SBrown about firsts. What was your first...

  • Real ski - hart hornet
  • Real boot - Scott boot, followed by custom Langes
  • Race ski - Dynamic VR17 which I'm happy to say I'm going to posess once againg thank thanks to a new friend on another forum
  • Powder Ski - Volant Chubb. I got these shortly after I moved to CO. Followed by Atomic Powder Plus then a slew of others
  • Quiver - Three pair of VR17s and a pair Head XR-1s
  • Helmet - Bell shorty back in the 70s for racing
  • Piece of real tuning gear - I've had files and waxing gear since the early 70s. An old iron, an aluminum sauce pot, a brush, mill bastard files and file cards. Now I run a Wintersteiger set up of TrimJet, S350 and belt sander. WooHoo!
  • BC set up - Rossi STs with Marker AT bindings in the early 80s. Still have both.
  • You'll just have to come see my collection when you're in Breck. Everyone is invited except the junk collector.

First time skiing was on a 8th grade school trip to Montreal, Quebec City and an overnight stay and skiing the next day at Mount St Anne. Decades later I found out that Mount St. Anne is where my parents first met.

First plastic boot was a Dolomite ?? at Jay Peak circa 1970. A skiing epiphany

First non used ski was a Tony Sailer purchased at a Towers department store in the mid 60s. Unfortunately it skied like a department store ski.

First real ski was Rossignol Roc 550 which I broke in half, reverse cambering between two moguls.

First time skiing The West was in 1972 when a friend and I drove and stayed in my partly camperized Ford Econoline Van from Toronto to Aspen (30 hour drive). Except for the last day when it snowed during the day, it was sunny every day and snowed every second night for the first 3 weeks of March.
