I was speaking with a friend who was part of the course setting crew, working with Evers. He said the course was CLEARLY set to play into Dressen’s strengths. It’s going to run very fast. Very straight, with a couple of key turns, and some terrain that you’ll need to nail.

In other words, a SG set that the DHers should love. We’ll see.

Good observation. Not sure what it accomplishes, for either of them or even for the USST. A bit more camera time for Ted. This may be his last time racing at BC.
Interesting event. Seems like a TON of USST alums in the house, a lot of intense and private conversations, I hear.

But, yeah. Odd, IMO, to see them racing the SG. Going to be interesting if it is set as reported to me.

Perhaps Germans love Autobahn.

Ligety and Ford just through. I think they ran to get some ”speed” for Sunday GS. Ford lost an edge and slid on his side, dnf but ok.

Well.....let’s say that Andy Evers’ plan didn’t work so well! Dressen had a mediocre day. It always seems like whenever a setter tries to set for his athletes it never works out.
What I heard tonight, was that a couple of people VERY familiar with the hill, had suggested to Andy that the course being set was going to run MUCH faster than he intended it would. It ran straighter than it looked like it might. You generate speed quickly out of the start. And he thought these coaches were not really worth paying attention to. Bit set in his ways?
Well it ran very fast. Fast enough that it may have rattled Dressen, who had no love for BC.

I thought it was a really interesting SG. Pretty short, but a lot of challenge and so damn fast. Not a lot of room for mistakes. I don’t think anybody who really went after it skied cleanly. Odermatt, with no reports just “sent it”...the plus of youth and his bib number. Great wIn.

I feel that’s about the best we can expect from Travis Ganong in SG. Nice day. Very interesting interview. He made it clear that he liked the surface, and the set, but also that he loved the sun, the light, the temps, etc. had just come off a training block at Copper, and felt his “setup” was dialed in. Good day.

Young guys had their challenges and some are not so young. I have no idea whatsoever why they started Ligety and Tommy Ford. Made no sense to me. That course was like a sprint DH. Not so beneficial for two GS specialists, IMO.

Let’s hope for good weather and a good day tomorrow.

@ChunderBlunder and I just pulled into Avon a few hours ago. We’ll be up at BC for the DH tomorrow. Some enchiladas, a couple beers, time for bed. Put 900 miles behind me today......

FYI: race jury has moved the start down to the reserve location at the top of The Brink due to high wind at the top of the mountain.

Great, though extra short, downhill today. I like Fuez and he ran well. There were some nice late runs too, like Sejersted, and of course, Cochran-Siegle!
