Just got back to the States after a week in Austria taking in the Hahnenkamm races and Schladming. This was my 4th Hahnenkamm and it keeps getting better. My first Schladming and that was amazing. European WC races are incredible and especially these. Went with @Average Joe and a bunch of other guys. Highly recommend going some day

@K2 Rat damn should have notice this earlier, as it would be cool too meet. I was standing some 30m on opposite side of track during 1st SL run, and crossed track exactly there after bib 35 or so. Would be easy to say hi if I would know you are there :D Next year? :D

Kilde has one small SG globe from 2016. Who would have thought his next one could be the big one.

HK could have put it close to his today. I put this DNF as bad (from an impact standpoint) as bad as when he pushed out with the run 1 lead at the 2018 Olympics. He may be consistent but he has bad luck on timing of his DNF’s.

Unusual (I think) # of DNFs today, both runs. In Olympic Channel they said it was a reflection of the course prep to have 10 people outside the top 30 in the second run, but no idea how the course held up there were 7 DNFs in top 30 in first run.

Nice pics from Kitz and Schladming. I see you made it close to the Londoner (pic #2). No pics from inside? :)

we did go to The Londoner on Thursday eve, but did not even try on Saturday night. The rumor is they will be forced to close next November when their lease expires and the landlord’s daughter wants to open a store. Hopefully not !! Obviously I did not take these pics

So my recording of the Super-G in Austria never even saw the start of the race due to the weather delays. No idea if it even happened (haven't checked online). However, I have to ask why the heck they use course workers with shovels to clear loose/new snow. Why wouldn't they use a cat or some other more efficient method to re-prep the course? What am I missing?

A snowcat would ruin the injected and prepared racing surface. Race organizers spend weeks getting a World Cup racing surface hard and consistent, injecting it with water, sideslipping it smooth, and using shovels and rakes to ensure things are just right.

A snowcat's weight would destroy this surface. Snowcats are designed to break up ice and create a softer surface. While a snowcat is often used for initial packing and smoothing of a racing surface, within the two weeks prior to a competition (sometimes longer when it's speed) cats are kept well away from any venue.

Thus why you see people using shovels to remove snow. About the biggest piece of machinery you may see clearing a World Cup course is a snowblower, but that's only in times of exceptional snowfall.
