Lol. Wrong!
You race to the clock. They add the times 1st and second run. They don't add places. In the end you figure out what the story is. They make a decision to skip second. We think it's wrong.

Btw, these posts were requested to be moved out of the world cup thread
Just because you're adding the time over 2 runs, doesn't change my post at all.

You race to be the fastest skier. The time (combined however you want) is a measurement of that, not the result in and of itself. If X number of skiers are faster than you, you finished in X+1 place.

Yes, that's the theory, and why things are the way they are. It's only one way to look at it, not the only way.

It's a course failure perhaps that the times are so close.

Can we move all these time/place posts out of this thread?

You can win more points than your opponent in a tennis match and still lose.
Is that convincing?
To me, yes. There’s nothing funky about how each point is earned.
Is it convincing to win in a final-set tiebreaker if you never broke your opponent's serve, but your opponent broke your serve?
Again, nothing funky about how points are earned. No one’s getting bonus points. There’s like, oh, if you get to a 100 point game and it’s still deuce, we’ll give you both a game for the good effort.

This thread is just futile. We might as well be asking why racers don't get a points bonus for how pretty their makeup is or how cute their puppy.

The rules are what they are and the convention on placings is fairly consistent across most sports.

Exactly. You didn’t beat EVERYone, but how thrilling, a tie. Let’s give you points as if you had.

Your other point is well taken. This is just what we personally think is fair. In the end, the rules are the rules.
