According to Vine Pair -
Quite frankly, I'm a little surprised to see mac-n-cheese and potato salad on the list, but.... to each his own.

I don't see Zinfandel or Pinot Grigio on the list. :(

Zin is obviously missing from that list for a BBQ. The big and bold ones from Amador county, a quick drive from Lake Tahoe, often times are suitable for a variety of grilled or slow-cooked dead animals. Blended Zinfandels expand suitability for this wonderful grape. Note well: White Zinfandel is for those living on the east coast and act as "Chateau Cashflows" for the wineries. I wouldn't even cook with a White Zinfandel.

@Jasmine brought back some Zin from Rombauer that we fell in love with. They have a Port Zin (can't be called Port) that blew my mind as a dessert served with dark chocolate.

I bet @Matthew Deem has a lot to offer this thread. (if we can get him to pop in) He brought some incredible wines to taste at Arapahoe Basin.

And yet cava and provencal rose are on the list. I don't think this originated in the US. My guess is UK.

BTW, making wine is my profession.:beercheer:

(yes, I am toasting to winemaking with beer)

I didn't realize you were a wine maker. I could probably learn a lot from you.
Matt Deem is also a wine maker, which is why I brought his name up.

*I'll see what I can do about the emoji.

A wine emoji would be great, but I am perfectly happy toasting with beer too! There is a saying in our profession, "It takes a lot of beer to make good wine". In the not so old days, big wineries around here used to lay in beer by the pallet for the harvest crew . . .

Googled Matt Deem . . . "vines at vail" winery. Cool.

Here are a few. I just have to resize them.
Thoughts?

Doubt it we have NFI what beer can chicken is, wouldn't refer to shrooms as mushroom caps wouldn't have lobster on a barbie and are certainly no strangers to the Pinot grig. No Cab Sauv on the list either.

It's very confusing having fatbob and skibob active simultaneously when it's a while-drinking sort of thread. :D

I do have real thoughts on bbq wine. Later.

While searching for emoji's, I found this - from the vine pair site I linked.
Its not a surprise that their wine pairings for BBQ season are a bit lame.
Cocktail Recipes in Emoji form = weird, if not lame.

Beer can chicken is a whole chicken BBQ using a beer can to stabilize it on the grill - or AKA - beer BUTT chicken.

Lots of wine varietal missing - no cab/merlot, no zin, no pinot grigio/gris, no riseling, no ice wine! (I have a university degree in this stuff. Don't use it!)

Tricia - I like the "champer" glasses! (Anyone else for Absolutely Fabulous!)
