Theoretically, with the pickup I could hide a growing quiver from the wife. Just to ensure she doesn’t catch on, get some vinyl graphics (top sheets) printed for the new skis so that they match the old :D and pray she never drops the tailgate .

As a waterskier, a car ski is a ski for behind the car. Like on a rope in the parking lot. Around the world where you loop the car while they do a brodie the opposite way. To be honest, I've never done that on snow but it's a standard show ski maneuver on water. Probably really stupid on snow skis behind a car. Why do I want car skis?

hmm, I guess it's time to make pylon for the vehicle or strengthen the roof rack. I would totally do this with my kids. Not sure why we haven't. My previous house had a 900' driveway. We would ski behind the truck up and down the driveway hill. Speed was goal at times too. :)

Car ski would be my Rosi Exp 83s, 168cm. My Custom Salomons are my ski patrol skis, but stay at the hill. Kinda the same thing for me.

If I was to theoretically leave a pair of skis in the car, it would have been my 185 Nordica Enforcer 100s. They would handle just about everything and I would have fun doing it.
Mine used to be the Enforcers, but now it might be the Brahmas...until @Ron sells me his Stockli Laser AXs:daffy:

Why would I leave skis in the car, when I walk out the door to ski?

I do it because warm skis are slow skis; and they'd get stolen if I left them next to the door.

Not in the car but in the Yakima Sky Box and the skis come inside when I arrive home; up till now it’s been my Rev 85’s, this year will probably be my new Z90’s.

I have been reading the replies here and realize that your 'car ski' is intended to be your 'go to' ski when you don't know what conditions you'll have; I was being too literal about the 'car' part before.

For me, my 'go to for any possible condition' ski would be either my Ranger 98s (188 cm) or my K2 Pinnacle 88s (184 cm).

Ahh,Tua with 75mm Nordic Norm. Brings back memories of my own Tua Trans Alps. I have a whole stable of these class of skis. Mostly I use my Fischer Rebounds with 75mm, Aleco leathers small mountain hoping these days.

I do not keep a ski in the car these days, but years ago I would keep my Fisher President Combi in the trunk of my car. The only time it would come out to of the trunk was to ski, tune, air travel, or end of season. BTW it was 200CM and it did fit in my trunk without much difficulty.

And the difference between this and a 'daily driver' would be?

The pair I grabbed all last season were the Enforcer 100's. 3 different pairs are hanging there but they just kind of do everything I ask them to.

I’m a simple 2 quiver ski guy, at least for now. It’s either a “frontside” ski currently a Head iRally or a “backside/powder” ski currently a K2 Pinacle-95. Plus being an indecisive person it limits what I have to bring along or store at the area.

But I’m also lazy, so I Ski the frontside on the backside and vice versa, hardly worth taking my carving skis back to the lockerroom or car when a friend or colleague wants to go off piste which sometimes makes it interesting:crash:
