Trailforks Use on Garmin 1030

Does anybody know how to use Trailforks on a Garmin 1030 WITHOUT following a chosen route? To just have it show you the trail network you're on, like your phone does with Trailforks?

This is driving my wife nuts -- she doesn't want to keep being told that she is "off course" for a route she has no interest in.

Do you need to download the app to the 1030? On my 830, if I am just riding and have the map showing (no route or anything), it shows me the trail I am on.
