They sold more of the teal Rossi 4Sk's than any other ski up to that point.
The numbers are never produced as fas as actually hay many of each model ski is produced from season to season but I would venture to say the top model skis sold were the following (in no particular order)...

  • Rossignol 4S
  • Olin Mark IV
  • Salomon X-Scream
  • K2 Four
  • K2 Recon
I think the Rossi Soul7 might be on this list when it ends it's cycle.

I have 3 out of the 5. Never touched the X-Scream or Recon.
The 4Sk is still a fun ski for me, even now. The Mk IV was not as nice as the later Comp IV..
The K2 four with the blinking light seems to work OK (it's been a long time since I skied it, should revisit again)

Earlier on say late 60, early 70's who had the market share, Head? K2?
What were the big selling models there? What about the Rossignol Strato?

Are those Rossi's the ones with blue or green bases? I didn't have a pair but I remember one year at Killington when it seemed that everyone else did.

For the purposes of this thread, are we counting all SCX models separately (red, blue, orange with carve plate, white/black, yellow/black cap, purple wimmins)?

Yes, I remember LOTS of Head Standards and Masters too. More than the early hart skis of the same vintage. Maybe that was just regional though?

How is that possible? Surely the museum needs an x scream. Changed the whole industry from race skis. Or is it the foam? core cap construction you find abominable?

@mdf, here's a shop of the bases. Neither blue nor green.

Some of these were made in big numbers (had to be with all the warranty replacements!)
K2 four competition, 1972?, 86-64-74
K2 four winter heat, 1973?, 85-65-75
K2 five competition, 1975?, 86-66-76
Rossignol Strato, 1967-1970, 87-69-78

Was the strato 102 different or did it just say "strato" on it? Or was it not even named 102? That's what I remember.
My first real ski! Measured to fingertip height with arm held straight up. The short choice was wrist height. Don't know how we turned them.

Hmmm. I think maybe it was the letters not the whole base. One year K2 had day - glow pink words on the base and the next (?) Year rossi had day glow green letters. The reflection from a slightly lifted ski made it look like the snow was radioactive.

To narrow down the year, the K2 were KVC.

I would say Rossi Strato, Head Standard, Kneissl Red Star. There weren't so many models back then. I remember lift lines in the 60's almost pure black with Heads.
