Sounds fabulous. I've never tried a Manhattan but will soon. I'll try your recipe.

I'm drinking mostly sparkling lime water with pineapple vodka. Totally unsexy but low in all the bad stuff while still maintaining taste.

You must try. I’m somewhat of a cocktail aficionado (snob) and in my mind the Manhattan is the unquestioned king of cocktails. A proper martini, a good gin and vermouth, is the only thing that comes close.

I definitely will. I also love a proper martini and thought I'd found paradise in a gin bar in York, England last summer. I do love a good stinger too. I love a good single malt too.

How does one pronounce that? I tried to order it off a menu once and sounded like an idiot.

King Over Water
1 1/2 oz Grand Marnier
3/4 oz Ardbeg
3/4 oz Leopoldo Cranberry Liquor
1/2 oz lemon juice
1/2 oz five spice honey syrup
2 dashes Xocoatl Mole Bitters

Add all ingredients in shaker over ice and shake. Strain into chilled coupe and serve with lemon peel.

All cocktails go better with an Aussiedoodle in the background.

Into a shaker of ice:

Half measure Campari
Half Measure of Red Vermouth
2 measures Bombay Saphire
A few dashes of orange bitters

shake & pour into a martini glass (though some like this drink over ice)
Garnish with a slice of clementine

Do not rule out a Rob Roy as a great before dinner cocktail.

I like zombies. It seems everywhere you order one has a different recipe. That's ok and part of the fun. Only thing to remember is if they don't have a recipe (on the menu or the bar tender has it down), don't order it there!
Original recipe (I think) https://www.esquire.com/food-drink/drinks/recipes/a3763/zombie-drink-recipe/
For various reasons it changes, e.g no 151 proof rum.

my favorite recipe:
1 shot dark rum
1 shot light rum
1 shot medium rum
1 shot apricot brandy
1 shot blue curacao
Orange-passion fruit juice
top off with 1/2 oz cherry brandy.

I usually stick to a two drink limit with this one.

manhattens and negronis also go very well with cinzano if you like it a bit more tart .

Another option is to use Cynar in a negroni versus Campari. Never tried Cinzano in a Manahattan, new territory. So many cocktails to try , so little liver....

I got home from the ski shop today, poured a glass of soda water then realized it was missing scotch.
