My first run ever, a green on Bear Valley, on my second day skiing. I pick up some speed on my first turn, next thing I'm traversing, and soon I'm down. I look up, and the instructor is looking down on me, and yelling:
-- "WHY DID YOU LET YOURSELF GO?".
At first I was perplexed, frustrated, and angry.
-- "WHATCHA' MEAN LET MYSELF GO???".
-- "Well, you put yourself on the back seat, lost balance, and went down. That's what I mean."
Five seconds of silence.
-- "Ah, that".
All in a sudden, it was all clear. And I can tell you, every single time I get on the back seat, I can see the guy's face. This tip really stuck to me. In a positive way. The guys was one of the team coaches for Bear Valley. Not the most diplomatic, but he taught me so many things in a couple hours of group instruction. Amazing.
