Dutch are a bit obesssional about skiing - they have huge fridges capable of hosting FIS SL

I'm trying to figure out what this was supposed to have said.

The store in the photos looks like Amersfoort, where I bought new boots 2 years ago. Then it was still under the name/ownership of Wim Jaquet, a very long-standing shop.

Has since been sold to Daka, with now more ski brands. I don’t remember seeing Stockli or Croc/Augment 2 years ago, nor a cutout of the most successful 50% Dutch ski racer ever, but plenty of Fischer, Atomic, Head, many FIS models.

While they sell other sports goods, they do, or at least did stock and sell ski gear year-round. I have never seen another store in The Netherlands devoting that many square meters to ski gear in summer! There is a dry ski slope with race club close by Amersfoort and within an hour’s drive, 2 indoor ski slopes........guess those are the huge fridges.

It's two statements combined in one sentence.

1. Dutch skiers tend to be ski nerds.
2. The Netherlands has indoor ski slopes (a.k.a., fridges) big enough and steep enough to host FIS slalom races.

Ah. I get it now. Thanks.

The first six times I read it, all I could picture was some kind of wine display vault filled with short racing skis. And then, "Why do they have to be cold?" and "Why only the SL skis?"

Doh.

As far as I'm aware, it's only the British who call them fridges. There are several around the UK, but none of them are as big as the really big ones in the Netherlands.

Around here, they're basically feeder hills that double as practice parks for the park rats.

It's ok. In a couple more centuries you guys might have evolved to understanding the subtleties and compelxities of the English language ;)

.....and I might actually be able to employ punctuation properly.

Jep, that's Daka in Amersfoort. It used to be owned by a skiing enthusiast. Now, it's part of the Daka chain. But this store has kept its specialty function with its Coach Department and its Race Department. It has the most extensive high-end collection in The Netherlands.

For freeride gear, we have MK Skiservice and Snowcountry. Both all-year-round ski specialists.

I'm impressed that the location was figured out by the second page of this thread.

And it actually makes more sense that this isn't something you're going to find on every street corner on this side of the pond, but I have to admit I'm a little bummed that it isn't the norm. ;)

Got my last 3 pairs og skis from Snowcountry - they even have a danish site now. We have a couple of that size here in DK, but they don’t carry that many brands, but many of the same few brands. i tried to get my hands og some Brahma’s last year, but here in DK i could only find the CA - Snowcountry provided again:)
