Every once in a while a little known factoid pops up that makes you say.....wow!
I saw this snippet about Hedy Lamarr and actually did some checking to see if it is true, and it is.

Yes, I came across this info several years ago and was stunned. You don't associate Hollywood starlets with high level science.

There was an editorial in a recent Wired (I don't usually read it, but it was on a counter somewhere) exhorting us to move past Marie Curie in celebrating women in science. That somehow it's become this thing where in every poster, article, etc, it starts and ends with her - and she did amazing things, but she's not the only one, and the way people talk about her makes it less of a "hey, I can do that too!" and more of a one-off exception. Hedy Lemarr was mentioned in the article.
