Beautiful day at targhee, powder is chopped up but still soft. Sun was out for most of day but still cold. If anyone has a car, that can't handle snow or ice, there is a targhee shuttle from driggs. The access road this morning had 3 inches of packed ice, snow.

Had a great time at GT on the Monday / Tuesday, certainly a learning experience with the amount of new snow to deal with. Tuesday was easier and the visibility was better. A nice little side trip to end my 2017/2018 season.

Recommended: Teton Valley Cabins (cheap and cheerful), Forage Bistro and Lounge for eats (get the Lamb Burger).

Got back to Wydaho for a few days. A rare BB day at Targhee after some new snow and a lot of wind. The Blackfoot lift is closed, so it takes just a small bit of planning to get back into and out of the areas served by it. Dreamcatcher to Headwall traverseTo the upper BF traverse and then it is wide open. Keep your speed and takethe low cat back to Shoshone lift and ski back down to DC - or take the carpet upand skate to DC. Skied several laps and few tracks in most of the Powder Cache area. The areas shielded by the trees had some nice snow. IMG_0127.jpg

The second pic is from DC lift, not many tracks for 11:00 on a Bluebird day @ targhee

Taken from the top of the Dreamcatcher lift about three this afternoon. Picture really doesn't do it justice- incoming streak of snow in the sunlight. Looked like a scene from a movie-Ullr's blessing. The coverage is not as good this year at this time as i twas last but didn't hear any complaints from the many folks hiking or skinning the hill.

Targhee Dreamcatcher lift lines at 12:30 today. A lot of people were at lunch of course, but don't think it was more than 25 folks or so in line at one time most of the day. Started snowing around ten, heavier at the top and the Targhee low vis "wonderousness" set in. Not terrible though. Depending on the source 1-3" or 3-6" expected tonight. Dreamcatcher and Shoshone were the only lifts running today. Cover is scant on south facing slopes-adventurous boarders were doing some rock mining- but the snow off the G,B.U,down low was fairly soft-just stuck a toe in here and there at the bottom edges of the trees a couple of times. Promised myself to stay on the groomers with the present coverage-wonder how long I'll keep that one.

    @wyowindrunner

I’ll post this question in this thread as well to see if it gets any hits.

-Any local Pugs know if Teton Valley Cabins (on the way up to Targhee) are under new ownership or anything strange going on?

Have stayed there before to ski at GT....and was fine...clean, well kept, convenient.

My buddy just called for a couple of cabins for our trip in February...and he said he talked with someone who barely spoke any English..(like when ordering Chinese food)... he said it was odd, and different from previous year bookings.

Just wondering if anyone had any info....thx

My friend who lives in Driggs keeps sending me sweet shots of meadow skipping in very fluffy snow.

Going to need to take the van up for a weekend for some early season touring.

It was thin coverage today. We'll see if the forecast holds for this evening. Targhee doesn't make snow except for right at the base.

New snow was welcome this AM. The report said 5" seemed like maybe a little more on top. Lower parking lot was full by noon and the overflow road was getting some cars. With the cars come people and with no Dream Catcher or Sacajewea turning the lift line was fairly large (for Targhee).

Not as good as opening weekend last year, but we sure had fun! Avoided too much off the top, as there were enough rocks even on the groomers that we decided to work on drills (and then drink breaks) off Shoshone.
GREAT weather! Always have fun when we ski up there!

That would be great..and much appreciated. It’s not that big of a deal, but we’re curious if it turned over to new owners...(I’d buy into that property if it went to sale again.)

You can PM if u want to relay any info. Thank you very much.

Open Snow is forecasting 20" starting Tuesday night over the next five days. Then single digit day and sub zero nightly temps next week. These guys are usually pretty close. That should help preserve the snow, but can't expect major dumps at those temps. Be some cold skiing when I get back home.
