But with my Porsches I always had a set of summer wheels/tires ...so two sets of tires to one car? Then I just bought quattro's and the tire thing became redundant. This strikes me as having two (or more) cars and one set of wheels...

I see you had to label the winter car so you wouldn't forget which one to take when it's snowing.DanoT actually I do the same thing...but both are Audi '05 TT quattro coupe and '01 A4 Avant. See if you figure out the plate on the A4...

I have really come to appreciate those 325's of late...they are drawing all the money on BaT.
That depends what you have on them for tires. Dedicated Summer/winter tires (with great driving roads) make the most smiles year round. Just because the AWD platform will manage doesn't mean it is being optimized. Traction is what we want and all we can get is preferred. Where I live it's an 8/4 month split roughly and I would never 'split the difference' with even a highly rated performance no-season with above average (for a no-season tire) snow numbers. It would be a losing game all year long!
I was a huge Porsche fan...911SC/924S/944S2/'05 Boxster S...that Boxster broke my heart and my bank account. It started a IMS failue and Flat-Six Inovations let me know that my VIN was one of the era of M96 engines that must be split to repair...I traded it in on my latest TT. I can't afford to play any longer.Winter car
