But with my Porsches I always had a set of summer wheels/tires ...so two sets of tires to one car? Then I just bought quattro's and the tire thing became redundant.

I change cars, not tires: '93 MR2 for summer. '06 Volvo XC70 AWD for winter.:D

DanoT actually I do the same thing...but both are Audi '05 TT quattro coupe and '01 A4 Avant. See if you figure out the plate on the A4...

Phil...sorry this is getting way off subject but I wanted to show you the Miata I built...'90 1.6 supercharge...the works...I traded that Miata and a 944S2 straight across for my first TT.

Rick...should we move this some where more appropriate?

I used to have one of these and loved the hell out of it but it was really just my summer car.

Now I have this which is my summer and winter vehicle combined.

I'm likely trading in my 7 year old Jeep with 110,000 miles on it for a 2018 brand new bright orange crosstrek with 0 miles on it. Then eventually get another summer car such as another sebring or a miata.

those 2 audi's are my choice too, currently looking at an all road to replace the wife's Forestor.
with a ski box the tt would be ok in most conditions if you didn't mind the road rash, but I only use mine for spring solo days and put my skis inside.
The drive up the Sea to Sky can be fun.

That depends what you have on them for tires. Dedicated Summer/winter tires (with great driving roads) make the most smiles year round. Just because the AWD platform will manage doesn't mean it is being optimized. Traction is what we want and all we can get is preferred. Where I live it's an 8/4 month split roughly and I would never 'split the difference' with even a highly rated performance no-season with above average (for a no-season tire) snow numbers. It would be a losing game all year long!

I have really come to appreciate those 325's of late...they are drawing all the money on BaT.

Bill can reduce that to a sentence I can understand? Your saying your summer time has to give you all the lateral "g" grip your car can develop or your not happy? Are you driving a optimized racecar during the summer?

I was a huge Porsche fan...911SC/924S/944S2/'05 Boxster S...that Boxster broke my heart and my bank account. It started a IMS failue and Flat-Six Inovations let me know that my VIN was one of the era of M96 engines that must be split to repair...I traded it in on my latest TT. I can't afford to play any longer.
