My Summer Toys:

Jet skis. I have three Kawi's, a 750SX (standup) a 1991 X-2 (pictured below), and a 1996 Kawi 750SS. At the time this picture was taken, I owned another X-2 that I have since sold. I started with sit downs, realized I wasn't into them, and picked up smaller boats. So much fun. My jet ski habit is far, far, far cheaper than skiing.

Here are three other boats I used to own. Since 2003, I've owned 7 different jet skis, and have still spent only a fraction on boating as snow skiing.

1989 Lazy Daze, Technically this is an all-season toy, as we own it to ski camp in Winter. Picture is a camping spot in what (for the time being) is now Bears Ears NM,

My newest and oldest toy is a 1981 Yamaha Xj650. I wish they never stopped making UJM's...

During my Summers I like to teach animals new things.

Kayaking through the ruins of the Rust Belt is always a fun family event if we don't get mugged loading the boats.

That's our Summer....

I have bikes and surfboards that haven't seen much action since the kids took over the leisure time. Best thing for conditioning was coaching soccer from U5 through U15 last year. Kid is going to go out for JV this fall so we're not joining the rec league I coached all those years. Now for exercise mrs crgildart and I hike from our house down to Duke Fitness Loop and back a couple times a week. It's a 3 mike round trip with a couple hundred feet of vertical changes in terrain.

Backpacking a couple times a year with Chance Of Snow's Boy Scout Troop takes up a few weekends.

These are more year round but I made a fingers crossed promise to break them down in November-December to make room for the Christmas tree.

I've got to get some of those motorized toys. All my stuff is self propelled.

They're tearing down a house behind us to put up a monster home and they delivered the digger last night to start doing the demolition. I've already got a chair for my little guy to sit and watch the digger in action. This is better than TV. I'm sure he can watch this for hours...

That brings back memories. We have a close family friend who is the excavating, blasting and demolition business. Obviously this was irresistible to my son, who was three when we had a lot of work done to our yard. He was able to put on a hard hat, go for rides, and all of that fun stuff. And yes, he watched them for hours form inside the house.

Back then, about 1989, when the heavy equipment sales guys were contacting their potential, or existing customers about a new piece of equipment, they almost always sent demo VHS tapes of them in use. Our buddy would drop them off at our house. I remember making a tape that was about an hour and a half long, using the 15 minute demo tapes.

Our son would have watched them non-stop if we let him. Pretty funny when at about age four he had the sales pitch and exact specifications for every one of those bulldozers, graders, bucket loaders absolutely memorized. And of course the had a lot of toys to play with as well. Fun stuff.

I miss those ages, BTW!

Mine tend to be self propelled as well, although not completely zero emission. Here's one of my favorites on Convict Lake after skiing Mammoth on July !0th. FWIW, I only got 5 or 6 stocker 'Bows and one decent brown at about 15".
