I watched Red take the slopestyle gold live (NBC sports app on FireTV actually works pretty well) but am torn about the best of three format as opposed to a combined score. I guess the idea is to encourage a go big or go home approach which fits snowboarding, but it does seem to make it more likely that an unknown will win with one great run when a veterant may have put down three solid runs but not medaled.

I was wondering how a "best run" format would affect ski racing. It might lead to more wild rides ending in DNF, but it could go the other way. In the snowboard slopestyle I noticed a lot of competitors give up on a run that wasn't working right, when in a combined score event they would have tried to keep going.

Here is more info on the setup then they will tell you on tv. This is from the above link. Near the top of the page, "Start List", there's a spot where it says "3 Files Available" with a down arrow. Click that and choose.

If you simply want to follow results, go to the above results page, (not the pdf link directly above), at the top look under events> Alpine Skiing > Live Timing. Then choose the event - it's the first or second line. Second is a new software. Don't know the difference. Anyway, you will get split times and final times and standing as the racers come down. Not nearly as much bandwith needed as live stream.

Chloe Kim, 17 yr old snowboarding phenom, just laid down a 93.75 on her second run! In first by over 8 points. The first run she missed a hit.
No winds today. Temps supposed to go up to 33F with full sun.

Just tweeted by Steve Porino:

Confirmed start for combined at 11:30 local time. They will use Super G start and they will use “wind lines” over all 3 jumps. As in take the line around the lips of jumps for safety due to gusting winds.

Was it the first? Ok, guess I saw someone else blow out. Women's level is way up in the last 5 yrs.

Yeah shej ust missed the second 1080 so her 2nd run is bust. 1 more left! Kelly Clark just missed 3rd place. Commentator thought she was robbed. Goodness, she won gold 16 yrs ago in Salt Lake. Long time ago.

Ah, but there must be excitement! i heard the Canadian guy in the mixed doubles described as "the bad boy of Canadian Curling".....:roflmao::roflmao:

And the he had a drink. Sprite. With sugar!

I am watching the ladies' ski jumping. I feel like an idiot: I caught about 2 meters of air on a roller this Saturday and I thought I was passing out. These girls jump 100m and land like it's no big deal. What's wrong with them all!

And she takes the victory run and beats her first run with a 98.etc. Spectacular.

Chloe Kim just put down a 98.25 on her last run. Gold. 100 being perfect. So smooth. A bit freakish, almost looks like she's not trying at the end it's so natural and still doing I don't know what tricks. Arielle Gold bronze.

Anyone notice Hirscher's wobbling of outside leg? I think mostly left footers. Maybe it's just the grippy snow.

DH track looks very "firm", "grippy" and bumpy. The wind is gusting quite a bit, and seems to be present lower down the hill. Think we're going to see some challenging skiing.

I think Hirscher's run is going to be "quite good."

Have it on the app and on NBC.

The air on the jumps seems a little excessive. Some good recoveries already.

Chloe crushed her 3rd run. GOLD!

Now watching Super Combined. Holy cow, the conditions seem wicked: fast super grabby snow and unpredictable wind gusts. Even though they're on the wind line some racers are still getting big air.
