Snowboard Mittens vs. Skier Gloves

I've been watching the Olympics and I noticed that almost all of the slopestyle and halfpipe snowboarders wore mittens (except for Shaun While - he wore gloves), and the skiers all wear gloves. Anyone know why this is?

The anomaly here was the snowboard-cross, where they all wore gloves (but they also wore more form-fitting clothing for boarders, since speed is paramount).

Gloves are baggy?
Sean also wears very tight pants and jacket when not in US team outfit. So gloves align with that?

It's easier to hold a pole with gloves, and they have to grab their ski for tricks.

Just watched women's aerials and saw quite a few mittens on them.
