Well, since (a) the actual sole length will be written on any boots you get and (ii) you'll check the forward pressure by looking at the indicator on the binding, you shouldn't really need to trust it in practice.
The exception, I guess, would be if you're buying boots online and need to have them fit an already-mounted pair of bindings. Which is a real situation that happens, I guess. Even then, you can ask the seller to read you the sole length from the actual boots.
