It was a glorious day today. Sunny and mild.
Behind the house, the land goes up hill about 400 feet elevation. Forest, old and new. Some is rather steep.
I put the skins on in the shop and then walked over about 40 yards to the start of "the woods" to put on the skis.
The skin up was a lot of cross hill slipping and sliding as there was an ice crust under 4 inches of week old " fresh". There was a mile to go north to reach "the goods".
The peak was bagged without undue stress ;-) An obvious fox den marked the peak minus fifty feet.
Meandering down again through old pines, mature hardwoods and open field at the bottom was pure delight.
A miles walk back home along the dirt road was pleasant. Not a car passed the entire walk. Next time, I will put the skins on again and retrace the route up , then down the way I came.
My wife pointed to the dried blood on my cheek and asked if that was a consequence of the passage down.
"worth it" was my simple reply.
Worth it !
I took a few pictures, but they do not project the feeling ....
