When is your resort opening?

Some resorts in Tahoe have optimistic expectations for opening day this year, while others seem to have a later than usual projected date.
  • Mt Rose - October 26:eek:
  • Mammoth 11/8
  • Squaw/Alpine 11/16 (not sure if they will open Squaw first or Alpine, or both at the same time)
  • Heavenly - 11/16
  • Kirkwood - 11/21
  • Sugar Bowl - 11/30
  • Sierra at Tahoe - 12/1
  • Northstar 12/1
  • Diamond Peak - 12/13
  • June - 12/21

Stevens has 11/21/18, though as early as 11/16/18 if conditions allow.

Crystal has 11/16/18 as a tentative opening day. They also have better snowmaking for the lower elevation areas near the base, so maybe a little more confidence in that.

Baker simply states opening date depends on conditions.

There is usually a 3-way race to open first, though Stevens has opened a few days later in past years, but not anymore. In the past 5 years they have been willing to open with some exposed hazards and roped off areas with gates and caution signs on otherwise intermediate terrain.

Sun Valley, Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22.

They almost always make it, it is just a matter of how much.

There have been a few years when it is only the green Lower River Run, most years one or two runs top to bottom, good years a few more.

Usually at Baker there is a huge dump over a couple of days that makes the base go from a few inches to about 3', and then they open. They don't give an opening date, it's just when the snow comes; usually early to mid November.

Marmot Basin lists 11/9 as their targeted opening date.

One correction to your post is that Northstar's web page calendar says "Opening Day
Northstar California Resort will open for the 2018-19 winter season on November 16, 2018, weather permitting."

Lets hope they have a better season than last year when I did not ski at Northstar for the first time in many years, even though I have pass that covers it and friend who lives about 10 miles and is very accomodating.

Kitzbuhel opens today October 13. Admittedly it is only 2km of pistes open with farmed snow, but they always push to be the first in the region to open that doesn't have a glacier.

We had a kid in the shop who was looking for a ski boot travel bag, going to Europe for ski training. Is this where he's headed?
