Raichle Flexon boot has been worn by most of the all time greats that have competed in freestyle mogul events. The Raichle Flexon cabrio design allowed skiers to flex and close the ankles with more range.

Below is something I found interesting, starting at 1:14. This gave mogul skiers access to control the front part of the ski when skis at the time were straight.

Now what has this got to do with technique? Modern day mogul skis are essentially straight with very little shape. Skiers who can not fit into a FT or Dalbello have modified their boots to have more flex. As such, can control the front part of the ski. IMO, its the reason why you will see differences in how a freestyle trained versus most cert ski instructors ski a mogul field. Not making a judgment nor a critique of either way but to point out a fundamental reason why there is a difference.
