Looking at a quick road trip to Tucson to visit my mother. Mt. Lemmon is open and I'd like to get a few turns in there to say I did. I know the road can be an issue when it snows (i.e. snow is good, road is closed) but what else should I know about ahead of time? Get there early seems like a good bet since the parking lot is the size of a postage stamp. I'm also guessing it's not a bad idea to bring an overnight bag in case the road gets closed when I'm up there.

I tried twice to hit Mt Lemmon while I lived in Phoenix, but no luck. The road is the key and the authorities are quick to shut it down, and rightly so given the typical Southern Arizona driver. That said, it's not much to ski but the view from the top looking down over Tucson is awesome as is the area around the resort. Summerhaven is a cool little place.
