Well, things are winding down here in the Northern Hemisphere, but that doesn’t mean a thing: The Adventure Project (TAP) is proud to announce an 11-day program exploring the resort and backcountry around Nevados de Chillán.

Nevados de Chillán is situated next to three volcanos and has a lot of fun terrain that was shaped by lava flow, so there are many bowls, gullies, and natural halfpipes to explore. The ski area has the highest average snowfall in Chile, almost 400 in. a year, the longest run in South America (Las Tres Marias, at 8 mi), and 12 lifts (five chairlifts and seven surface lifts). The village sits at 4,600 ft with the summit at 8,200 ft, resulting in a 3,600-ft vertical drop.

You can always find untouched snow in the vast terrain. There is a ton of easily accessible sidecountry that requires little to no hiking to reach, and if you like to tour, there are some amazing options, whether skinning into the next valley over or up to the top of a volcano.

Advanced or expert skiers or boarders who want to go off piste should have avalanche gear and uphill capability. We have several full-cert staff members and permission from the ski school to run private programs, so if you are interested in improvement courses, we can do that, too.

We will stay at the Cabanas los Hualles in Las Trancas, in new lodge rooms, all with en suite bathrooms, satellite TV, and ample storage. The lodge also has a drying room and two outdoor hot tubs.

Breakfast is included and will be served in the main cafeteria building each morning. We will have five meals cooked by our own private chef at the Cabanas los Hualles; the other four nights we will eat out at one of the many excellent local restaurants within walking distance of our accommodation.

Las Trancas is approximately a 20-min drive to the ski resort each day. We will generally eat lunch at one of the on-mountain restaurants. We will arrange for our shuttle to meet us at a prearranged spot at the end of the day for transfer back down to Las Trancas.

Yep and a long way from Valle Nevado ( which is real clise to Santiago)

Fun area. Volcanic fumaroles and great steaks in cabin in Las Trancas. I made friends with a couple of local yuppies from Conception ( they wore Spyder and drove a Golf GTI so that was pretty yuppie for Chile around the turn of the millenium) and we had a blast.

Speaking to friends in Nevados de Chillan today, it sounds like the storm did deliver some decent snow up high (talk of a meter). It didn't snow down in Las Trancas, but the snowline was about half-way up the mountain. My friend Francisco was hoping to go hiking today for a look at the mountain and take some photos. Hopefully I'll have something to share with you all soon.....

Good morning everyone!

So apparently it did snow all the way down into Las Trancas. That's good news as it means really good snow up high. Francisco sent me some photos of the snow at the Cabanas los Hualles in Las Trancas. Not sure if I will get those photos from the mountain as he is due to head back to Santiago today. Fingers crossed.

So, only a little bit of new snow forecast in the next week, a cheeky 8ft! If that happens, that should get the season underway rather nicely, I would think...... time to start planning that trip folks!

Some photos of the lower part of the mountain from today. That's great that they had some decent looking snowfalls down low. That should mean a lot of snow up high. These photos are from the page and show the 50cm's of new snow at the Nevados de Chillan Hotel.......

Looking forward to seeing what's up high...... Seasonal allergies are kicking my butt right now. Bring on the snow. Less than 2 months to go...... August 10th!
