Continued the Gatorade: Glacier Freeze trail run tour. Only took 22 miles, 4.5k of gain, and 20 minutes of swimming to finally wear out the dog.

Spent the weekend out at Glacier Peak as my boyfriend made attempt #3 at his last Washington volcano. No summits since the 15 mile approach and sleepless night in a wind-pummeled tent somehow didn’t wear the dog out enough for her to calm down once it was time to rope up. I don’t mind having to go back for another visit to my favorite peak in the Cascades.

I took my first hike in Herman Gulch and who should I run into? @SkiNurse , of course. My photos don't compare to the one I posted earlier that my friend took, but gee, Colorado is gorgeous.

Herman Gulch is one of my favorite, go-to hikes. The wildflowers are spectacular this year.

Per report from other friends, two weeks ago the trail was still covered by a fair amount of snowfields and the lakes were frozen and even just last week, the wildflowers still had not blossomed. This was a perfect week.

Those look like monarchs on their path to Mexico for the winter. Do they pass by you every year? Is there milkweed nearby?
They are called Tortoiseshell butterflies. Thousands of caterpillars last week then these guys this week. I have never seen them here like this in the past.
