Snowflower buds just barely beginning to push up out of the earth this afternoon. So vibrant red I spotted them from about a hundred feet away even though they are only about 2" tall. A beautiful sign of spring in the Sierra. Hard to really capture on a camera phone

Beautiful pictures. Out of curiosity: there seem to be some skiable "patches", any reason not to ski a little?

We considered it, but decided not to for a few reasons. It would've been only about ~1k feet of skiable descent for a 5.2k climb. One of my partners is a Baker guide and hadn't gotten a solid refreeze all week, so we figured we'd have to be skiing down between 7 to 9 am to get decent snow. That would've been tricky, since we didn't roll into Washington Pass until midnight Friday night and most groups take 7-10 hours on the up (we ended up around 7.5-8).

But also, part of the route looked like this:

Sarcodes sanguinea , the bloody flesh-like thing, commonly called Snow Plant. One of a kind. https://www.nationalforests.org/blog/snow-plant-nf-california View attachment 25293

The hill is still PHAT. No sign of lake reveal (which would not be visible from here though) and its June 14!!! pretty awesome! @ArapahoeBasin
