We just ended a four day excursion to Yellowstone where we stayed at Old Faithful and toured all over the park. You can only get in by "snow bus" or snowmobile (with a guide or with special permission). The contractors are keeping the roads groomed just like a ski area does so they are allowed to continue operation during the federal shutdown. They groom 150 miles of roads, half every day and the other half every-other day. Yesterday we had what our guide called a "three dog day" which means we saw three different canine types in the wild. A VERY rare occasion. Even the food service people knew about it this morning.
Dog 1, Coyote:
Dog 2, Red Fox (he did this several times):
Dog 3, Wolf (Not the best pic, but quite rare. Each of these guys howled and we heard others in the woods howling back. Incredibly amazing, a lifetime event.)
