I'd probably look at the range that is printed on the tire...go towards the lower end of the range, and adjust from there.

Tube or tubeless?

For my own interest...does this matter? I'm new to going tubeless...do you run them higher or lower than tubes?

Thanks. Tubes and staying that way until I get a new bike too. They came at 25. I will split the diff and try 20 on the trails this weekend.

He and his friends primarily do a rooty rocky green trail so at 100 lbs he could go pretty low though getting bogged down on the pavement in this weather isnt any fun

The bogging down can be annoying; the lateral understeering squish when attempting corners at low pressures on pavement can actually be scary. Obviously, the tire casing will play a role - test it in a controlled environment by setting up some cones in a parking lot or something.
