Talking vintage, I just wish I had kept my Niles era SlIngerland kit. First (and best sounding) matched set I've owned. Had saved and saved and bought a lightly used 13/16/22 set from 1969 while in high school for $400 in 1971.

Ya, I'm fortunate to have never been desperate enough to sell my late 70s Niles 5 piece. I added 2 more early 70s pieces in February when I dragged it out of storage and started this thread, then the 6.5" 80s COW snare. Will probably go back to the 70s stop sign 10 lug Grestch Brooklyn snare net time I move stuff around. Better sounding snare, but the fat one looks so damned cool hahahaha.

My son plays Gretsch Renouns while I play Gretsch USAs in a vintage build. Love the Brooklyns and Broadcasters too! What cymbals are you playing @crgildart?

@Marcel also builds a fine guitar. A man of many talents, indeed!
My son and I both occasionally hang out with musicians. Some people refer to this as being known as "the drummer."
Anyway, his kit...

And mine...

First of all, cool stuff. Also: I spot a Lemmy: RIP. Heck of a band. "We are Motorhead, and we play rock and roll".

I met @Marcel at Mt Rose yesterday. A man of many talents, indeed!

My gear: I've been listening to lots of demos online and reading, reviews, etc. It seems like the combination of the Super Champ X2 Head and the corresponding Super Champ SC112 1x12 speaker would be tons of fun to have around. Not super cheap, but it would also look great in the living room (which has become a music room). Even the tubes that come on the thing seem really good. I like the V22 bugera's tones, but not any better than the fender. And of course I can always change the tubes. Getting there!

Very many thanks to @hrstrat57 for all the help, here and offline via PM's. I'll update here if I pull the trigger ... or if I have any existential questions :)

I just caved to temptation and ordered a vintage Zildjian 22" Earth Ride to replace the 20" cheaper Planet Z ride. The Earth Ride is arguably the heaviest and best rock ping ride ever made. Can't wait til she arrives next week.

You do know your post will be an absolute waste of space without pics! ;)

The Earth Ride is also the UGLIEST cymbal known to mankind. They are sand cast then buried in dirt for a three months.. Process called "earth toning". There are no lathe or hammer marks. At 5,000 grams it is also nearly twice as heavy as most other rides the same size.

Looks like there might be some keyhole. I'm OK with that on a ride though. It was $50 off for Memorial Day sale at Guitar Center.

Busy day in and around my living room between day job duties. I dropped this 10 lug Gretsch snare about 30 years ago, several times but this one left a dent opposite side of the quick throw. Today I finally got around to pounding out the dent with a rubber mallet.

Not good hahaha!

Currently using an 80s Slingerland 6.5" Chrome over wood snare that matches the 70s drums mostly. But this Gretsch is a better sounding instrument. Too bad no room for a side snare right now..

Massive, 22" Earth Ride arrived today. She's a tank for sure! No keyholing, was a photo illusion.

It's here, it's here! @hrstrat57 , don't get this wrong, but I love you forever :roflmao:

Excellent recommendation. Both the amp, but also getting the head and the separate cab. The tube sound is phenomenal.

Nice.

You think she is good now wait till that speaker loosens up a bit....

and keep your eye out for a beat up Marshall cab (not MG or Valvestate) on local Craigslist too!

When you feel frisky change V1 to a better tube, maybe a Tung Sol reissue 12ax7

That'll do!

The Fuse software is fun too! Really the SC head is one killer rig! I'm kinda diggin British tone at the moment but I am always hunting CL for one of those.

Played through a Roland JC-77 at a jam at a rehearsal studio last week. Thing sounded great. Owner of the studio told me nobody ever uses that amp. I think I am going to ask if he will sell it to me.

I picked up an open box MicroCube several years ago at the music store as an impulse purchase. Didn't think I needed another small amp. Turns out I've used that amp more than my other four combined in the past five years messing around at home. Used ones now go for more than I paid for it mostly new. Roland puts out some good stuff.

Yes, exactly, both the speaker and the tubes will get better. Yayyy. I will definitely look for new tubes at some point, but I will probably wait until they start giving in, since they sound fabulous.

I still haven't fallen in love with the digital part. Just the tube and the pedals in front, has been giving me the best tone. But the delay is fun to play with. And some of the other effects. So I mostly experimented with the clean channel, and the digital FX. The voices, so far, haven't given me a tone that I would like better. And I like my But I only played a couple hours. And haven't even tried the software. I love having that versatility.

What I could really use, and there is probably a custom FX for that, is a looper pedal model, somethig like the Ditto Looper, or the Zoom G1on. Of course, there is no FX Loop in the SC X2, so you can only use what's in there or you customize. Besides, why spend $100 on something you probably already have :)
