Kid heading back to college tomorrow, picked oldie ... Hunt for Red October.

She found it by chance ... great movie.

Recall fondly my oldest cousin on leave when it came out. He was a submariner on a attack sub, took me to it and I recall his excitement and comments on the movies insights.

My Own Private Idaho, Blow and Gia are movies I enjoy and have in my collection. Don't watch them often but they stay with me for a long time. I won't ever say a movie is a dud because one person's dud is another's masterpiece. I will say I don't care for a movie or its not my cup of tea but I leave it at that.

Hunt for Red October
One of the very best book-to-movie movies. It stayed pretty close to the book as I recall, though it's been a long time since I read the book.
My all-time favorite is probably Young Frankenstein. Absolutely brilliant, IMHO.

Watched, "Life in 12 Bars" a couple days ago. A biography on Eric Clapton, a lot of his music has been the soundtrack of my life and know it pretty well. An amazing story, but the music was astounding! All remixed, watch with a good sound system and appriciate the story.

Favorites (there are a bunch more, these stand out)
  • 12 O’Clock High
  • Harry Potter series (I’ve read the books a couple of times.)
  • Casablanca
  • The Maltese Falcon
  • Schindler’s List
  • Cowboys and Aliens (great out of the ordinary concept)
  • Alien and Alien II (both great seat of the pants suspense and of course Ellen Ripley :D)
  • Lawrence of Arabia
  • Patton
  • Spartacus
  • Ben Hur
  • Space Balls (actually fell on the floor laughing at ludicrous speed stop)

Not so much
  • Horror of most types
  • Any with hand held non-steady cam "realistic" type like Blair Witch Project. Can’t stand the shake.

My old standbys that I can watch over and over and over are the original Halloween, the shining, chasing Amy, scarface, LA story, the birdrcage. I get nostalgic over Lucas. Also love traffic, joyride, visiting hours, and I know what you did last summer and love the Scream franchise where cheeky meets horror. Also love the firm, devils advocate and cocktail. Top gun, dorty dancing too.

Not a fan of Sci fi, fantasy, westerns, and what some consider classic movies (casablanca). I appreciate a good horror movie but most newer ones aren't very good so very picky there. I'm more into suspense than gore.

Love BBC stuff.

Favorite areas are comedies, dramas, suspense and psychological thrillers.

This thread is great. I love learning what everyone enjoys.

Damn, I got my list down to 35, but that's not with anything this century...and any one of them could be my favorite depending on my mood (so, a lot like ski resorts)

"You arrogant ass, you've killed us!" My all-time favorite movie. I watch it a couple times a year usually.

1) Casablanca
2) The Day The Earth Stood Still (the original, not the crappy remake)
3) Breaking The Sound Barrier

Interestingly, they're all in black and white.

Dud: New Lion King. I loved the original, I would watch it multiple times a year, it was a reall pick me up of a movie when I was down. The new one was just flat, no emotion at all and the soles w/o Sir Elton were bleh.
