Looks like a good one, if maybe a wee bit overpriced. At least you don't have to thread the steerer tube like the similar One Up took requires.

Knocking on wood here, but it's been a LONG time since I broke a chain. Unless it's an "out there" ride, I no longer ride with a chainbreaker tool. Just a very simple multi-tool.

did a nice ride out back on Emerald Mountain. 10 miles, 1800'. this was my first good ride. Felt good. Im still battling something going on my right lower back/groin area but climbing felt decent today. The ferns are getting really tall! I love this terrain. flowy trails, switchbacks, some fun sections with rocks roots and wooden bridges. The Why Cycles 29+ rocks. This thing is a climbing machine. I cleared some twisty, climbing, rock gardens today that I always struggled with and the bike sprints up steep corners on switchbacks.

Paging @Ron and anybody else who knows Steamboat well. The enduro race in 2 weeks course is out - Stage 1 at Nipple Peak and Stage 2 at Buffalo Pass.

Would love any intel, especially the Nipple Peak sections since we won’t be able to pre-ride those.

No problem with other trail users today, though a slight problem finding the trail. I know where I want to go, just having a little trouble getting there. :/

Since I’m not planning to compete in any MTB events, I’m gonna say I’m training for backcountry skiing cuz I’m not too optimistic about the lifts getting me there,

A little change of pace from my usual backyard Oregon stuff. Payette Lake Trail. 4.5 miles up, then 7 down-ish. Reverse course. Awesome uphill and downhill!

In support of a friend that needs to ramp down a bit by reducing climbing, we've ridden an 8 mile loop twice that is 3 miles road and 5 miles of ditch. Most of the 490 vertical is the road. The trail begins with some super fun single track that adds the remaining vertical and a sweet descent. The tread is wicked tacky from all our rain, but not a single puddle.

The fun begins.

IMG_20200730_094306353_HDR.jpg

Farther along. We are going in the direction of the water and the trail profile is a straight horizontal line at this point.

The image on the map is from today and is the first one in this post. The second was from yesterday.

Hating you a bit right now!

We probably won't see that transition until our first September rain.

I find that even working from home, work tends to irritate me. To that end, I decided to play hooky Friday and go for a ride. I did part of my favorite climbing ride up Towers Trail in Fort Collins. I jump off at Carey Springs and rode back down. It was obvious the rain we just had here in N. CO. was pretty heavy Towers ( a service road ) was pretty washed out. Made parts of it feel like trying to climb on marbles.

I make it all the way up and back down into Lory Park with out getting muddy. There's a cut off trail ( Nomad ) that I usually take but it's known for being muddy and flooded after a rain. It usually gets its gates closed, I was surprised it wasn't. I decided not to ride it because I hate to add to trail erosion. I took another path that can be pretty fast. Much to my surprise asd I'm running down this path, I hit a mud slick. I could feel myself drifting on the mud. Fortunately no fall.

I make it back to my truck, bike a little muddy along with me.

No great ride pics, just a dirty bike, did get a thorough cleaning when I got back home.

Sure did beat spending the day working

Shoutout to @Ron for sending me some great vid and caution on the first leg of the second day of the Steamboat enduro race this weekend - this is Grouse on Buff Pass. It’s a double black with noted fall exposure in places and a lot of big drops.

I was down in Gunnison over the weekend moving my eldest son into his college apartment and accomplished two things:

1) I got ms nay onto the bike riding Sea of Sage. She loved it, but probably isn’t getting into mountain biking any time soon;

2) I rode all of the A lines on Rattlesnake finally, just putting it my head that if I can’t do it here I won’t do it in Steamboat. We’ll see.

Man that slickrock and smooth path looks nice to ride. I've wanted to get to Sedona to ride in the winter...maybe I'll do Utah or Colorado...

Did this ride for the first time last year & finally got back to Thunder Mountain (Calif) on Saturday. It is a steep relentless climb for 5 miles with some hike-a-bike toward the top then a chunky, technical DH on the other side all above 8000’.

I love Hartman Rocks. It’s a toe of lava flow from when the San Juans were formed and is basically a series of granite slickrockesque formations with the trails built to tie into these features from blue to double black rating. Plus awesome fall line green trail flow.

Rattlesnake is just so good and epitomizes the tech to flow with tons of optional lines. Amazingly varied terrain in a fairly compact place right outside of town. And of course with Crested Butte up the road, there’s never anybody in Hartman but the locals.

I went for a walk today after driving to the 'end' of a 'dashed line' (unnamed trail) on MTB Project. People have biked it although it isn't officially in the system. It is level

I drove up a jeep road to one 'end' of the dashed line last evening.

Playing with my new (to me) camera.

Finding the dashed line required a bit of bushwhacking as the meadow was fairly wet following our monsoons.

The evidence of bikes.

IMG_1563.JPG

The entire dashed line follows a contour and was a flume from mining.

Some remnants of the flume.

It was old enough for square nails.

I made a lollipop out of this by following the trail that dashed line met at its other end for a while until I got on a second trail that returned to the dashed line somewhere in the middle.

Back at camp.

Because vandals breaking the gate on the left was too easy, it was replaced with the one on the right.
