I was up at Mammoth for 5 days last week, resort skiing with a bunch of Pugsters but kept Thursday open for a little solo bc tour into the MLB. This was my first time skiing here but have hiked and fished it some, about ten minutes on dirt, skinning by 7.

Part II I went up the ridgeline of Red Cone, a pile of pumice, and turned right and skied the bowl twice, then stopping on a flat rock at the bottom for a break. A few minutes pass and I look up on the ridge and I see six snowboarders with four dogs working their way up to the top, obviously planning to ski this bowl as well. I shot video as they descended, and as it turns out, two of them were instructors where I ski, and the others were locals. They had come to build a jump and hang out, so I headed up to the crest to find more turns after a bit.

Part III I made a quick ascent up the bowl and then worked my way along the crest, looking for good lines and an alternate route back to the road. Some of the closer chutes had already melted out so I just made turns back down the ridgeline and headed back toward RC bowl. Arriving back on top of the cone, I could see my new friends were still there, so I had to give 'em a show. I locked my toes and made a few big turns into the shade of the cliffs, stopped briefly,

then shot down and launched off of a rock fin, making a couple more big turns, lined up their booter and hit it with a straight, clean air. I hung out with them for a while and got some intel about cliff avoidance on the way out.

Some extra pics from last week. We we're planning on trying Bloody Couloir today but it doesn't look good, might do another basin tour tomorrow.
