We were just made aware that we lost @Skisailor to cancer yesterday. Laura was a great part of our community and Epic. She was also very helpful with whenever we had anything going on at Big Sky. She will be missed for sure.

This is sad news. I hope anyone with pictures of her will post them up.

I met Laura around 2010 and we became ski buddies. Her love of skiing, and sailing, drove her life, and I’m glad I got to do both with her.

She was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer around 2014, and she outlived her initial prognosis by years. Her strong will to live allowed her to realize her dream of living in Bozeman and becoming an instructor at Big Sky.

RIP, Laura.

Sorry to hear this. Not sure I've met her. Did she make an appearance at the 2019 Big Sky Gathering?

Yes she did. I don't think I actually got to ski with her but she went out with several people, mostly women IIRC.
I think @tepaz skied with her one day, also @bbinder @margaritamarcia met up with her and nolo one day.

She was quite active in the instruction area, and very respected.

I am sorry to hear this. I never met her in person, but had some interaction with her on another site; she was kind and level-headed.

A few things about Skisailor that deserve mention:

She had a long career working as an environmentalist for the State of Delaware.

For many years, she lived on her sailboat, named Scheherazade, which was docked on a tributary of the Chesapeake. The boat was 29’ long, so it was an exercise in “living small.”

But Laura dreamed big. She raced sailboats, too. And she realized her dream of living in Bozeman and working at Big Sky.

So sad, she was one of my favorite people on the forums. I will miss her a lot.
