After 7 yrs of planning, red tape, slow slow Forest Service the Lookout Mt. expansion plans have received final approval. Two new chairs on the Mt. behind to the south. One chair mile long and will give Lookout a whole new feel, expand the powder skiingd and a new lodge will go in where the expansion will be located.

Hi Pete! Maybe next time we will meet up at Lookout. What type of terrain will the expansion serve? Also, will it be ready by next season?

Pete, do you have a map, photos or something to give perspective to someone who hasn't skied there yet?

Lookouts web site has some preliminary drawings etc. Should have taken some pic's of the new area but didn't think of it in time. The new runs will be cut this summer and the lifts will go in next summer. Two new lifts, new lodge and new road that will access Montana folks will also be included. Some good powder areas will be accessed as the one new peak will be 6200 ft. which is high for this region.

One of the problems with Powder skiing at Lookout is that except for 2 runs when the snow gets deep the hill isn't steep enough. The new area should eliminate that problem. Lookout and the basin behind the ski area gets a lot of snow and the new area will much improve the choices on where to ski. They will cut the runs/log this summer but no new lifts until the summer of 2018. By looking at the Mt. I would say intermediate and advanced terrain. Even by looking at maps etc., it would be hard for me to accurately describe.

The new lift looks like it would give access to some really cool stuff just beyond the boundary. This place just made my hit list.
