Not trying to open a can of worms. ;)

We've had two can openers over the past eight years, both of which have been mediocre at best.
The first one was a Pampered Chef rimless can opener (I think it was by Zyliss) which never worked like the one I had when I lived in Michigan. It could have been defective.
The second one is a basic manual can opener from the grocery store, which is okay, but cranks hard, really hard.

Ziggy has been put on a prescription canned dog food and my hand can't take this mediocre can opener any more.

We're thinking about an electric can opener, and I'm betting you all have some suggestions.
Heck, maybe we just need a better manual can opener.

Are hand held electric openers worth a shot? Like this
Is smooth touch better or something that cuts the lid traditionally?

I have one basically like your first link. It works fine and almost all the time and runs on two batteries.

We have the I don't know what you call it, regular old fashioned can opener and it kills my hand whenever I have to use it. Fortunately that is minimal as Pacino's prescription food had a flip top as do the other cats canned food. Only time I need a can opener is if I open up a can of tuna. I'd love one of the two posted just because I hate the one we have.

I've only ever had a Swing-A-Way manual can opener. It works the best ,and with ease .

Lots depends on Ziggy's appetite.
If he is hungry - go with the Old Reliable.

Otherwise, the Hamilton is a good unit. I have couple of them since 2010.

I kind of want that one. :)

My parents had one of those when I was growing up. Come to think of it, it was flawless.
I just asked my mom if it was still working when they sold the house a few years ago and she said yes.
Now she's pondering getting one for their retirement house.
