Attention ski dads & ski moms: Keely's Camp is running a taking applications for their camp scholarship. The camp is a 3 day backcountry touring camp for girls ages 11-17, that covers the basics on using your gear and basic avalanche safety. Sponsorship also includes a full backcountry setup and some softgoods/accessory pieces.

I wish I had gotten the opportunity to start touring. Backcountry recreation has taught me so much good communication skills, strong partnerships, and the importance of speaking up in group decisions. They're lessons that really would've benefited me when I first started working (and, tbh, even more so when I first started dating). But it's also a really expensive activity to get into, which is where the scholarship steps in.

If there's an 11-17 year old skier in your life, it's definitely worth checking out the scholarship and more about the camp:

Super cool!
My oldest is 12 now, so she would be able to go, but we already have a family trip planned for that spring break. Maybe next year.
Note that that kid drop off is at Gardiner, MT and pick up is at Livingston, MT, slightly easier to get to than Cooke City itself.

Distantly related, for people interested in avalanche safety, and female role models for girls, this might be interesting:

This is such an incredible camp.
We helped promote a contest they had a few years ago.
Thanks for posting this.

Sweeeet opportunities just keep coming! Girls Do Ski just announced scholarships for their Intro to Touring and Intermediate Touring clinics. This is in addition to the 12 under 20 program that they've run for years that provides a free AST1 to 12 women under 20.

Camp info is here, and the application to their touring clinics are linked from their Insta bio

On Our recent family backcountry ski trip , we actually ended up skiing with Nina Hance, the AMGA skiguide who guides the Keeleys camp backcountry camp.
