Indie Resorts: Who’s Left? (Part 1, West)

With that in mind, I’m looking at the ski resorts that would make a great vacation without roughing it too much.

very helpful article considering this was your criteria. I will try to visit a couple of them this season to see if they will work for our Xmas family trips.

Great article. Some years ago we had the Sierra season pass and used it to visit Schweitzer (Powder Alliance) and also went to Whitefish / The Big Mtn at the same time, picking up tix at the local Costco for ~$50ish, and returning what we didn't use (!).

It seems like the Loveland Season pass is a decent way to enjoy many of these areas for a reasonable price, if one was looking for a different kind of destination trip.

California: Donner Ski Ranch which is across the street from Sugar Bowl. Small family run hill but good pow days can be had. Down the street you have 3 lift operation Soda Springs. Right on 80 and on other side of the ridge from Donner Ski is Boreal which is more of a boarder spot offering night riding.
