As crazy as this sounds, the Costco hotdog and soda combo may be the most popular meal in the US.

Here's the next level... I went into the local pizza/sub shop often enough for lunch for quite a while that I didn't even need to order. I'd sit down and they would just bring me my food.

Philly cheese-chicken plain, fries, diet Coke

^^^^ When they were young, my kids used to talk about how they wanted to be so much part of a neighborhood that they'd just walk into a place and only have to say "the usual".

I think it's the millenials' unarticulated desire for lost community.

The neighborhood I lived in in Wisconsin had a supper club on the main road. I’d barely get through the door and Neil (the bartender) would be mixing an Old Fashioned, which was waiting for me by the time I made it to the bar. Sorta miss those days — and the onion rings and relish tray.

Orchid Asian Bistro ... Panang curry with shrimp

Los Dos Potrillos has 27 oz margaritas. That's a Usual, but I vary which one.

Years ago in the DC area, friends had a certain pizza place they called for their Usual delivery. One evening, the guy took the order then said "you're eating late tonight". They started to question their habits.

I have two lunch regulars where I don't need to order:
Muna -- 4 pieces of chicken tikka & a plain nan
Koshu Ichiba -- salty ramen, light on dumplings, extra spinach

A frequent weekend stop:
Tea Style -- pot of Earl Grey & a plain waffle

Maybe. although when I was young, that was also a life goal of mine, and I'm no millennial.

I worked in a diner, I forget where, that had a menu item called "the usual," so anyone could feel a part of the community as long as they liked whatever it was (something basic like 2 eggs, toast and bacon).

Back when I was a drinker, there were a couple bars in town that would have my drink sitting on the bar waiting for me by the time I reached my stool. Probably not a good sign.

One of my favorite finds of recent years was this coffee shop I stumbled upon during a walkabout in Osaka; the name is literally The Usual Place
