I entered mine without looking at others first, but now that I've seen them, there are some great films others have nominated. Lots of fine films produced over the last century.

Oh man! I forgot my all-time fave: Best in Show. If you don’t like it, there’s probably something wrong with you.

I do like Sci-fi but they are just pure escape and nothing that is going to scare the viewer because there is enough real things in life to scare you.

  • Local Hero (have it ready for myself to rewatch)
  • An American Werewolf in London (the above reminded me of it... because Jenny Seagrove then prompted me to sigh and think of Jenny Agutter, one good reason to watch Call the Midwife)
  • Fargo
  • Pulp Fiction
  • Tampopo (4/4 stars from Roger Ebert back in the day https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/tampopo-1987 )
and a special bonus i'd like to rewatch, when in a suitably melancholy mood...
  • Songs from the Second Floor

Re Mary Poppins/ Sherri Bobbins

It's always been a bit of a joke in the UK because of Dick Van Dyke's appalling accent but I guess it was very technically advanced for its time. I recented rewatched it with my nieces and it hasn't aged well notwithstanding a fairly progressive message about female roles/role models.
